MUSIC MINISTRYFirst Service at 10:00 a.m.
(English) The mission of the music ministry of this service is to present music of a varied nature to support the diverse cultural makeup of our congregation. Music director Rebecca Batista de Almeida, violinist Bruna Myftaraj, and occasional vocalists lead the congregation every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. in the hymns and responses. The repertoire includes anthems from a wide variety of traditions, gospel songs, spirituals, and religious folk songs. We hold rehearsals on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish House, September through May. We select our hymns and service music from The Hymnal 1982 and Lift Every Voice and Sing II. |

(Inglés) La misión del ministerio de música de este servicio es presentar música de naturaleza variada para apoyar la composición cultural diversa de nuestra congregación. La directora musical Rebecca Batista de Almeida, la violinista Bruna Myftaraj y vocalistas ocasionales dirigen a la congregación todos los domingos a las 10:00 a. m. en los himnos y las respuestas. HISPANIC MUSIC MINISTRYSecond Service at 12:15 p.m.
(Spanish) The music on this service includes musical styles and upbeat rhythms from South America, Central America, Mexico, the Andes, and the Caribbean Islands. Music director Lorena Garay lead the parishioners every Sunday at 12:00 p.m. in congregational singing in Spanish along with Eugenio Huanca, a member of her award-winning band, Surcari. Eugenio Huanca plays a wide variety of Latin American and Andean instruments, including panpipes and charango. Other talented members of the Hispanic Music Ministry include Hannah Avena on trombone, Steve Laschever on trumpet and flugelhorn, Roxana Rosario on flute and vocals, and Mark Falade on cajón, Puerto Rican güiro and bass. Rehearsals are held on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. in the music room of the Parish House. We select our hymns and service music from the Flor y Canto hymnal and El Himnario.. In 2003, with help from the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut and the Trustees of the Colt Bequest, The Church of the Good Shepherd developed and started this multicultural ministry specifically targeting Spanish speakers who were searching for a home church. |
