COLTSVILLE

Coltsville National Historical Park
Good Shepherd’s neighborhood is often referred to as Coltsville. It contains many physical reminders of Sam and Elizabeth Colt’s contribution to industrial history.  These include the church and parish house, the armory buildings, worker housing, the original dike, Armsmear (the Colt mansion), and Colt Park. Congress authorized creation of the Coltsville National Historical Park in 2014. Efforts continue to satisfy requirements to establish the park.  Among other things, it will shed special light on Elizabeth’s significant roles in women’s history, philanthropy, and civic engagement.  We believe that the church and the parish house are the jewels in this project, and we are working to make the parish house accessible and able to accommodate the many people who we expect to visit us in the coming years.  Already we are providing frequent tours for local residents and visitors from out of town.  A representative of Good Shepherd sits on the board of the Coltsville Heritage Partnership, the official friends group for the planned National Park.

VILLA COLT
